#1692 Saturday 11 November

Up at 5am .... 2 hours on her iphone .... now it's 8:30am and she has been in the bath for 90mins.  I use this time for work on the accounts.  No-one else is up yet.

Midday
Kaylia and Krew went to the lake and haven't returned yet.  Naomi has stayed in bed ... Yay!  She is very sick but feels guilty about being sick.

 

I have been outside making lots of noise .... all the posts are now trimmed to the correct height and are ready for the beams and braces to be fitted.

This photo shows 3 beams sitting there.  The white beam is the correct length but the other two have to be lengthened by about 3 metres each

The plan is to place lengths of steel channel across the beams to allow each of the timber beams under the building to slide across.  I have 4 chain blocks to provide the moving force.

 

The damage to the house from the storm on 22nd September has not been repaired yet.  The insurance company moved very quickly ..... but the building company contracted to do the work are really dragging their feet.  Their boss visited yesterday and he agreed that the builders all seem to think the job is too hard.
 

I have just rung the insurance company and asked if they would pay a cash settlement on the claim and then I can arrange the repairs myself.

We've had such a mild start to summer that today is a bit of a shock..... It's only 36 but it feels HOT!

#1691 Friday 10 November

Progress report
4 of the posts have been trimmed to the correct height and one of the long beams has been lifted into place. .... it's just clamped for now but you can see how it's going.  

While trimming the posts my big grinder died!  So I just had to go and buy a new one...... so sad. 

Kaylia is off with Bonita and Sverrin picking up the tea for "junk food Friday" 

#1690 Thursday 9 November

A great start to the day as usual ..... Kaylia comes upstairs and jumps into bed and we have a time of cuddles and tickles before shower time.

8pm
After a good school day, she came home and wanted "games"...... this kept her happy till tea time and after tea, it was "bath" .......  she's still in the bath after an hour or so.  She sloshes round..... pouring water from one toy to another..... pushing bubbles around..... and singing!  She's very happy.

Soon it will be bed time.  Naomi badly needs to go to bed but the routine dictates that her own bedtime must wait till Kaylia has had her stories.

#1689 Wednesday 8 November

It's 5am..... once again I've woken feeling sure that I've heard Kaylia getting up and coming up the stairs. I want to allow Naomi the maximum sleep time so I rush downstairs on tip toe to intercept Kaylia..... only to find that she is still in her bed..... fast asleep!  I've been dreaming again.

Progress report on "The Move" .... (this report is part for historical record and part to tell people what is happening to "their room")  Today the final post was set in concrete.  You can see in this photo the two rows of three posts.  After these are braced and trimmed, the 3 long horizontal beams (6.2metres long) will be welded to the posts (running front to back of the photo).  Then the frame will be ready for the process of moving the room 3 metres from right to left of the photo.



6pm   We had a dinky-di thunderstorm this afternoon.... Gee it was good. 

Kaylia called me into her room just now..... to play her game.  It's a long time since that has happened.  She really insists on being told "Well done".... only that will do.

#1688 Tuesday 7 November

Another change in Kaylia's behaviour..... she really likes the tangram exercises!  Tangrams were an early part of therapy for her but she has rediscovered tangrams recently... I think it was with Catriona..... and now she is very keen on them.  I think it's partly for the praise that results when she completes the exercise.

 

She gathers her audience in the bedroom and after each 'set' she makes sure that we respond appropriately. 

This photo is taken in very low light .... it shows the 'template' to which she adds different shape counters .... to complete the puzzle.

 

This evening is going to be a long one.... I think it must be full moon approaching. ..... No.... the full moon has just passed us on Saturday.   Regardless of this, I had to growl at Kaylia tonight..... No talking, no singing, no rolling...... Big sleep or no school.  That shuts her up!   Isn't it amazing that "no school" is a threat. 

Naomi is sick.... flu again.  She's working way too hard.

#1687 Monday 6 November

The school reported that Kaylia was in pain today..... it's bad when this happens as we feel so helpless.  We can see that she is in pain but we usually cannot find out why.  All we can do is treat the pain and hope that it gets better.

At 6:30pm she's in her room singing her head off.  As is the usual thing lately, she has kicked us out..... "Close the door!"

 

The moving project is going well..... post number 5 was set in concrete today.  One more to go. Then the bracing will be fitted. 

We will have 2 weeks to lift the room and fit the steel channel under each of the floor joists so that the whole thing can slide.
