#201 Saturday 19 March 2011

Today is the day (so they say) when the moon will be so close ..... fortunately we seem to have missed the usual effects .... I have two apps on the iPad about the moon phases and they say that the new moon will occur at 2:11 on the 20th .... tomorrow morning! This has been supported by newspaper articles about the event.
The fact that the moon has an elliptical orbit means that it must be constantly accelerating and decelerating at different parts of the orbit ....

The idea that the phases of the moon have effect on our moods and behaviour is quite a mind-boggling concept when you think on a global scale ..... all those people in synch!

Kaylia has had the morning at Hillarys beach ("beach, beach, beach"!!) and she is now at Kym's for some much needed 'Kym time' ..... With all the family upheaval over the past month or so, this part of Kaylia's life has been neglected.

Number 200!! Amazing! What a story for Kaylia to have available to her in her later life.
Pete has been processing family photographs from the early 1900's in Sydney ..... it is a guessing game as the photos exist but there is no information to put them in context .... If there had been a blog, we might know much more!

My fears about the impending new moon have proven groundless .... or is that lunarless? Does the moon have ground? It can't have "earth"! What do we call lunar soil?

Anyway .... Kaylia has slept well .... phew!!

I had a pleasant compliment yesterday .... the business accounts have to be audited and the auditor commented that she was "inspired by my record-keeping". In my work it is hard to imagine a higher compliment. It certainly made my day!

Hi all
The news for today (aside from Kaylia sleeping all night ... yay!) is that Tina will be leaving us next weekend. This is the conclusion of an era .... Tina has been with us as an aupair from 1st June 2008 to Dec 31 2008 ... then as 'big sister' to Kaylia since then. Time moves on and Tina needs a place with less travel time to uni. Thank you Tina for all your support & help over the years. I'm sure you'll continue to be Kaylia's 'big sister'.

On the aupair front we are still struggling to find a replacement for Zoe (... not that any one could ever replace Zoe ... but it would be nice if we could find someone who will pretend!) 2 weeks to go!

She slept! Yay!
It was a good night to cap off a lovely evening .... Yesterday was Zoe's 21st birthday and we all went out to eat to help her celebrate. The evening was cool and balmy in Kalamunda .... Kaylia was in high spirits and beautifully behaved. Zoe's pleasure was a delight for us.

Note the bling! Presents had to be small for travel ... Kaylia was very jealous.

On a more pragmatic level, I've made another step in the process of dealing with my wrist ... an appointment for a 2nd opinion. The pain is now constant and produces an underlying anxiety & depression .... it is time to see what can be done.

Last night was a doozy! Kaylia was very unsettled in her sleep and Naomi did not sleep as a result. Then at 3:30 Kaylia wet the bed and she was then awake till 6:30am .... we all had a little bit of sleep till it was time to get up. Once again she was well behaved ... just awake! During the night, she would come back to bed and try to sleep ... but it didn't work and off she'd go again.

We've previously received comments about the sleep ... how important it is and that we must make sure that we get good sleep .... we completely agree ..... but how??!! So & so moon!

I heard a radio interview yesterday about how we're approaching a huge new moon on the 19th ... apparently it is in a phase where the earth & moon are much closer than normal ..... this is obviously affecting Kaylia's sleep. .... and the recent earthquakes are related too!

So we probably have a few nights of bad sleep to come. Oh Joy!

It's been a busy day .... Zoe has been wading through the intricate US govt immigration procedures for her study time there .... phew! and I thought Australian DIMIA was bad!

I was collecting Kaylia from school today .... the immediate request was "shopping!" .... comprimise .... the Bunnings playground. She had it all to herself so she was happy.

This evening we met a potential new "Zoe" .... of course she will never measure up .... perish the thought! But then .... who is it that is leaving us in 2 weeks? Ah ... woe is us!

(Anna should be a very capable successor .... we just have to persuade her to say yes!)

Today has been a good day.... we went for a drive to Rockingham .... drove around Safety Bay .... I pointed out the lake where cousin Peter disappeared in about 1946 ... drove past 18 Florence Street where we lived when I was Kaylia's age ... it certainly looks different now!

At that time the was no wall, no balcony, no garage .... there was a row of flame trees from street to house

We went to the beach and swam .... and swam! The blow-up boat is great!

Then it was souvlaki & chips for lunch before driving home again.
