#527 Saturday 3 March

I'm off to Bali this evening .... back on Wednesday.

Kaylia has a reputation at school now .... she's the cheerful girl! She is so happy at school. The staff tell me that the class ( 5 of them) all interact really well and clearly enjoy being together. This is really good.

#526 Wednesday 29 February

Pinch and a punch .....

Today's story .... but first a bit of explanation.
Some of you will already know this.  Children develop at different rates in different skills.  Kaylia currently has pretty good listening language skill ... she's probably about 6 or 7 year old level.  In talking skill she is way behind ... maybe 1 or 2 year level.  At this stage she 'babbles'  .... but because of her near normal understanding, we often hear normal words included in the babble.  This can be quite funny!

In the morning after breakfast, she reads to me from the current school reading book.  Yesterday she finished her reading and I praised her for her efforts ....  "Good girl, well done!"  Off she goes ... babbling away as she goes.  Then quite clearly in the babble we hear "Well done!"

She has a good understanding of good and bad behaviour ... when she is scolded for doing something naughty, she doesn't like it.  She is clearly relieved when I tell he that what she did was naughty .... but she is still a special girl!  It usually only takes a couple of rounds of this before she stops that behaviour.

#525 Tuesday 28 February

Today I'm trying out a new work arrangement.  David's caravan has been set up as a 'retreat' for me at the office.  I have my computer set up to do my work ... but when the 'sleepy spell' hits, I can have a quick snooze on the bed!  And I'm close at hand if needed for any work matters.  It's a good spot.

Yesterday Kaylia had a speech pathology assessment with Janina in our centre.  Kaylia decided that she wasn't going to cooperate so it was quite a torrid time.  Janina was able to get a feel for Kaylia's issues.  We are mainly concerned about whether there is any physical problem with her speech or whether it is wholely related to her autism.  If we can improve her speech, Kaylia will be better able to communicate and a source of frustration will be removed.

#524 Sunday 26 February

I've been up since 6am catching up on home office-work ..... this sort of work has been accumulating .... I've been crashing (in bed) straight after tea at night so it doesn't get done!  I've cleared the pile and I can see the desktop again.

I can hear Kaylia stirring so the day will start soon.  Today is very predictable .... shower .. then pancakes for breakfast .... then swimming ... then lunch followed by rest time .... then shops/icecream/playground ..... and tea followed by playtime till bedtime.

Variation today ... we have a Skype session with Zoe planned for 11am .... to plan her return to our madhouse later this year!

Later:
The swimming this morning was a good time with several very 'social' situations.  We can always see that Kaylia really wants to engage socially .... she just doesn't know the acceptable behaviors for the situations.

In the afternoon I crashed.  I'm on some new medicine and it makes me very sleepy.
