#235 Saturday 23 April 2011

After a "Sally forth" to the swimming pool we went op shopping and a-lunching at Subway! Kaylia loves her Subway. That was quite a good start. Then it was time to have another lesson in "How to get Kaylia to Watch a Movie"!
We picked "Hop" ..... lots of Easter eggs, rabbits & colour ..... should be good? She tolerated it while the pop-corn and lollies lasted .... then it was "Car" "Get up" .... oh well, we got through agout 80% of the movie. In one sense, it's like the way she watches a DVD .... she never gets right through .... she always changes DVD about three quarters of the way through.

On the way home my wrist was really painful so it was time to pop some pills .... that was a couple of hours ago and I'm still enjoying their effect.

Three weeks to Bali ....

Big car drive. Beach. Chippies.

Kaylee's kinda day!

We left home early and drove to Yanchep. The day was perfect for swimming and I think it was the first time Kaylia had encountered surf. She loved it and soon grasped the idea of diving under the waves. There was a strong undertow and she seemed to realize the need for caution. She was very well behaved.

Lunch was hotdogs & chips on the beach ... then some more swim before heading home. A good day!

#233 Thursday 21 April 2011

Today has been a hard work day .... with Kaylia that is. Something is wrong ... she seems to be in pain and it makes her very anxious. She can nag the back leg off a donkey at times like this. It's been "car .... shopping ... swimming ...." almost non stop since before she woke! It's days like this that I really appreciate having someone to help Naomi & I .... thanks Sally.

We suspect the dreaded growing pains again .... if she is starting another growth spurt, it will be causing her pain ... it's always bad the way she can't tell us.

On a brighter note, we've ordered some furniture for Pete's villa .... exciting! It's to be delivered before we arrive ... so we have something to sleep on.

#232 Wednesday 20 April 2011

Now that a date has been set for having the wrist operation, I find myself questioning the need for it to be done! The voices say. "it's not that bad .... you can manage the pain". Then I recall all the physical actions I have learned to avoid .... push-up type movements, getting up off the floor, reclining ... these (plus many others) are actions which have been painful for 10 years or more.

(Uh oh ... I forgot to put the bins out and the truck has just been past!) .... there's another thing that causes problems.

5pm Day One is almost over! It's been a good day ..... swimming ... shopping .... the in the afternoon, a visit to the dentist!

Unfortunately the latest 4 molars that have popped up have emerged already damaged .... it means another session under general anesthetic for her. First for x-rays to see how bad they are ... then if they're fixable ... do so. It's not a biggie in dentistry but it cannot be done under local with an auty one. It probably wouldn't even need any local .... but it is impossible to get her to sit still ... let alone for her to allow the dentist to work......

..... so it's hospital on 22 June.

Last day of term! Now we start two weeks of disruption and mayhem .... and next week Sally will be going off to NZ for her graduation and she'll be away for a week. Woo woo woo-ooo! Talk about a Chinese curse!

Ah well .... if we survive, we go to Bali .... a holiday to recover from the holiday! Unfortunately, it is literally true.

Musings about indo vs oz .....
there the government doesn't care about disabled people but doesn't pretend to ... here, 'care' is a vote catcher and hypocracy is rife ... there's so much pretense of care but the reality never reaches the home. There is a large group of people with no voice .... no time or strength to speak ... too busy surviving!

#229 Sunday 17 April 2011

Today started with a good sleep in (.... yesterday Kaylia slept from midday to 7pm then back to sleep at 10pm .... then she slept right through to this morning. Naomi & I had each taken painkillers and slept well too.) Naomi stayed asleep while I took Kaylia swimming ....then a shopping trip gathering things that we need for the approaching Bali trip.

It was a good start but from there, things rapidly went bad!

The DVD player upstairs decided to stop working .... and her autism would not allow Kaylia to accept any replacement player ..... anxiety went up and I got a glimpse of the situation that Naomi had found herself in when I went to Bali and the 'black iPad' was not at home! It is bad! So bad that we raced down to Big-W to buy another DVD player identical to the broken one.

We found one and got it home ... but we weren't sneaky enough and Kaylia realised that even though it was identical, it was not "four-DVD" (her name for it) and another melt-down precipitated. This all became too much for us too and so Sunday night is not pleasant as we each try to come to terms with things in our own way .... a salutory lesson that we have our breaking point too.
