#2190 Tuesday 6th June

Wow ... it's been a wet couple of days!  When we left Hyden yesterday morning the sky was dark out to the west ..... and soon we were driving through the rain.  It rained fairly steadily all the way back to Perth.

It's great to see all the green paddocks and the freshly plowed paddocks.

Then we had a beaut storm last night.  As I write at 9am, there is hail falling on the roof!

#2189 Sunday 4th June

Since its a long weekend we've gone down to Hyden for an overnight stay. Kaylia was very keen to go to Wave Rock again so it was a good idea. However when we actually arrived at the rock, it was clear that her interest was just in seeing that the rock was still there!  No way was she going to get out of the car to climb the rock.

However we noticed a sign post to "The Humps" so off we went.  It was really worth the drive.

At the base of the rock is a cave called "Mulka's Cave" which has a gruesome legend associated.

Mulka's Cave is located within the vicinity of Wave Rock in Hyden Western Australia. The name Mulka comes from an Aboriginal legend associated with the cave. Mulka was the illegal son of woman who fell in love with a man with whom marriage was forbidden according to their law.

It is believed that a result of breaking these rules, she bore a son with crossed eyes. Even though he grew to be an outstandingly strong man of colossal height, his crossed eyes prevented him from aiming a spear accurately and becoming a successful hunter.

Out of frustration it is said Mulka turned to catching and eating human children and he became the terror of the district. He lived in Mulka's Cave, where the imprints of his hands can still be seen, much larger and higher than that of an ordinary man.
