#311 Saturday 9 July

Life is topsy-turvy at present .... I can't stay awake in the day and I can't stay asleep in the night! Kaylia is awake with a wet bed and my wrist won't let me sleep. It aches. The areas that are regrowing ache. The tendons ache. I've started on the painkillers again to get some relief. I'll go to the doctor today for the diabetes and I'll try to get a bulk order of the big ones. I'm told that for chronic pain they can prescribe more than a single packet.

Later: the doctor says its not diabetes at all! The blood sugar levels are OK. All my problems are probably from long term use of codeine in Panadol Forte. So ..... find some other way of managing the pain. I'll be trying Voltaren instead.

Evening: We've been out with Tina tonight. Kaylia was in fine form giggling her head off. I'm sure she has no real idea of the significance of the event. Tina has been part of Kaylia's world for almost half her life .... and now (in two weeks time) ... Tina is going back to Germany. Thank you Tina! You will be remembered.

Helen also departs soon ... Tomorrow! The time has gone too fast .... I wish you could stay longer. Maybe another time?

.... and Sally will leave us in two weeks as well!

We haven't found a replacement yet ..... Not that we could ever replace Sally! If anyone out there can help us find au-pair number eleven .... Please help!

#310 Friday 8 July

She's ..."happy!". At times she'll be running around .... or in the middle of a dance .... and we'll hear her say ..."happy!". It's good.
Today we all went over to the class end-of-term party at the "farm school". It's an impressive place with lots for the kids to enjoy. Gnomes hide all around ....

.... and the playground is great!

Kaylia loves it!

I'm really feeling the effects of diabetes today .... it's getting worse ... I need to get some help soon.

On the bright side .... 9 days till our next "Bali Break" .... Kaylia is counting down.

#309 Thursday 7 July

It's 3am again .... she's down .... then she's up .... then she's down .... Gggaaaarrrggg!!! Naomi & I are lying here planning the villa colour schemes. ... and artwork ... yada yada.

Afternoon: The night showed me a new trick .... if she's cold, she comes back to bed!  So .... dress her in a light weight nightie ... one that will not keep her warm if she's out of bed!   Last night she was in a summer nightie and she only stayed up a short while ... then came back to bed and slept.

#308 Wednesday 6 July

Kaylia had a very unsettled night .... up at 2:30 to 4:30. I suspect that because I was downstairs (the BP machine is noisy), K reckoned that "things weren't right!". Mummy was home but where's daddy?

Now (at 6:30pm), she's already crashed. Since I didn't really sleep till 3:00am (when I figured I had enough BP data) I won't be far behind her!

It's very good to have Naomi home again. The trip was worthwhile but frustrating as some planned things could not be done .... People didn't turn up, orders weren't delivered ... and it was a holiday! I think I'm gonna live there ... it's always holiday time!

#307 Tuesday 5 July

What a day! Bi.I.zzee! and right through it I've been doing blood pressure tests every 30 minutes. The results are disturbing. Diabetes is affecting me much more than I thought. The doctor ain't gunna be happy on my next visit!

Kaylia has been a gem ... Naomi's absence has been noticed but she has handled it well ... a far cry from May when I was away. I suspect that anxiety levels are much lower now .... teeth, school ... I think the teeth may have been a problem even that long ago as she was definitely needing painkillers then ... and she doesn't need them now! It's all information to learn from. Hopefully having it recorded in the blog will help us to remember and to use the knowledge in future.

Another tool we have this time is a little video that Naomi has made telling Kaylia where mummy is and reassuring Kaylia that ".... mummy is coming back!". Kaylia has watched it many times.

We noticed (when Kaylia was being prepared for surgery) how effective the pre-med drug was .... she was really dopey .... just what is needed for the really bad times on a plane! We may be able to get a prescription for something similar for emergency use.

Naomi arrives home in 4 hours. Kaylia knows .... it will be interesting to see if she can stay awake till then. I've told her that she can go to the airport to see mummy.

#306 Monday 4 July

I think the 4th of July is a significant date? .... have to find out why.

..... oh duh! US Independence Day!

Naomi has had a saga at Denpasar airport ... the arranged meeting with Wiwin went wonky :-). .... and Naomi had to phone for extra contact numbers at midnight! It all turned out Ok and she's on her way to the villa now.
At bedtime last night I decided to skip the usual sedative (to test if the teeth had been the problem) .... it's just as well I did! At 11:15, Kaylee woke and rushed to the loo with the runs! If she'd had the usual sedative it probably would've meant a very messy bed!!

This could be due to her developing a liking for a laxative fruit gum ... I came downstairs to find her helping herself to it ... I don't think she ate very much .... But!...

She's sound asleep again ... she didn't stir for all the phone calls ... just rolled over ... I've just poked her in the eye while rolling her back ... and it didn't wake her!

Kaylee at Kings Park

As you can see.... all the activity has left me wide awake! Rats! Writing is good for going back to sleep (... I hope!)

Evening: Kaylia may be a new girl after her teeth work I suspect .... she seems full of beans and very happy. She has needed analgesics day and night for a while to control anxiety .... now we know why! She doesn't need them anymore it seems. Touch wood! May it continue.

#305 Sunday 3 July

A good night .... Kaylia slept right through and she's still asleep! Somehow she knows that it's "sleep in time". I learnt last night that it's better to wear a splint on my wrist at night .... I did this at 3am and till then I had only been able to doze as I was constantly trying to find a comfortable wrist position. It only has about 10 degrees of flex at this stage and if the position tries to exceed that, the wrist objects!

Evening: Naomi is in the air on her way to Bali (for 2 days to sort out some villa arrangements) ... Kaylia has kept to her routine and she's dragged me off to bed for cuddle time before sleep.
Today Kaylia has had swimming time with mummy, HJs playground, Bunnings playground, shops and Kalamunda playground. .... and after tea the call was "playground!"
