#1761 Friday 9 February

Kaylia was very excited when she came home from school yesterday she showed it by flapping everything!  She flopped on the bed .... lay on her back .... and FLAPPED!! ..... hands  and arms .... feet and legs!    School confirmed her good day by email later .... so we know what was going on for her.  She doesn't communicate by words ..... but sometimes her body actions communicate very well.

The two 8 ton hydraulic jacks that I have been waiting for have arrived today!  This will allow the "room move project" to move again.  The project has been on hold for weeks as I waited for more lifting power to be available.    While waiting, I have been working on the roof above the garden area.  This covers the space next to the spa.  The roof which was attached to the 'bungalow' has been moved to it's new place and this task is nearly complete.  This will complete all the storm repairs.

#1760 Wednesday 7 February

7:30pm and she's in bed singing her head off.  Sometimes the song is identifiable.... and sometimes it's more like a happy noise.  She often sings the national anthem.... and a short while ago she was singing something.... I crept over to the door and found that she had a song playing on her phone and she was singing the chorus line.

She is such a pleasure to have in our lives.... Hard work..... but wonderful.

#1759 Monday 5 February

Kaylia has been promoted from year 9 to year 10!  All her classmates are a year older.... and when they went to a new class area, Kaylia was left behind.... and she was very upset.  The teachers accepted the move that was needed .... and Kaylia joined her friends again.  She is very happy.

I'm impressed by the way Kaylia accepts and manages technology ..... I mentioned recently how she analysed why her iPhone wasn't playing YouTube .....  and she is managing the charging of her phone well too.  She likes to use the 'mobile charger' (an add-on to the battery for my cordless tools) ..... and when her phone goes flat, she goes and gets the charger set up and takes it off to her room.

It occurs to me that when I was Kaylia's age, "technology" was a radio!  I had a battery powered radio and I thought that was cool.  Not long after that, tape players and cassette players arrived.  These were fancy stuff for a long time .... till CD arrived and computers!  I remember being in awe of my older brother who had a PC with 8b memory (I think that's right) ..... and then in 1983 I was using a Commodore VIC-20 for business ..... 20b of memory.  Incredible.

1988 - IBM with 10Mb drive
1989 - portable PC with 20Mb drive




1990 - Atari "palmtop" with 16Kb memory

...... and so on.   I can remember thinking in 1976 that there was no way that I could imagine myself ever using a "computer"  LOL  .... and now 40 years later I carry an incredibly powerful computer in my top pocket ..... and Kaylia uses one without a second thought.
