In the bath again! She just can't get enough water play .... pool, beach, hose, wading pool, bath, shower, lake ..... It's probably the sensation on her skin. It needn't be warm water. ... just so long as its wet!
Afternoon: We've been shopping ... and as soon as we were in the car to come home the call came .... "pool ... pool".

#505 Friday 3 February
Life can be interesting at times! I had a good talk with Zoe this afternoon ... She's still working toward being able to come back to Darlington in the latter half of this year ... so she can find a local teaching position for 2013. This would be a great arrangement for all concerned.
I had a good talk with Kaylia's psychologist Darin ... who plans her therapy program. When we started the current plan, my understanding was that the autism had prevented Kaylia being aware of other people and hence not having the observation skills required to learn how to think and reason. The therapy program was aimed at teaching her how to think. At the start, Darin told us that at some point, her ability to think would grow to a point where she would begin to 'self accumulate' knowledge .... the therapy would have kick started the learning process and she would be able to use her thinking skills to learn .... without having to be specifically taught. This is the way a child usually learns.
I think that after two and a half years of therapy she has reached that point! If I'm right this is cause for real celebration. Watch this space! We will be closely monitoring progress to see if I'm right.

#503 Wednesday 1 February
The first school day for 2012. It's been a traumatic start. Kaylia has been very upset. We arrived at school and she was all set to head off to the TA12 (her room last year) .... she was very disturbed by having to go to TA4 instead ... and then to find a different teacher as well ... she lost it! We haven't yet developed our own confidence in the new class situation so we were very upset too. No doubt Kaylia was able to sense our feelings and this made it harder for her. It was a really bad morning.
I will go to pick her up soon and I'll go early so I can see "how the land lies".
Evening: she did OK at school ... she was quite unsettled at home time but now (7pm) she has settled again. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
On the home front ... Kat's mum is here for a week ... Welcome Donna!

#502 Tuesday 31 January
The past 24 hours have been a constant refrain of "School .... School .... School"! It is very hard to get her to understand that school is not today ... it is the next day .... today is Tuesday and school is on Wednesday. This morning she woke at 5:40 .... sat up ... and said "School .... School .... School".
It would be nice to think that she really enjoys school so much ... a large part of the behaviour is just that .... but part of the behaviour is her need to be back in the school routine.
Her ABA therapy is going really well at present and .... as well, she is clearly trying hard with her speech. Six months ago, we were struggling to gain her attention with sounds ... to get her to see that sounds are made by the mouth. Now she is very interested in the sounds and she tries hard. She is ready for speech therapy now.
I've just deleted an email selling baby stuff .... the heading was "Huge Baby Sale" .... ah ha! They're selling huge babies!
There is a small video presentation of photos from Kaylia's 2011 school year .... it's in Windows and Mac formats ..... it is too big to send by email but it can be available to you via Dropbox. If you'd like it, send me an email.

She's itchin' to get back to school! Part of her bedtime routine is to
prepare the clothes she will wear tomorrow ..... last night she was
insisting that she get school clothes!
This morning she is "out of sorts" .... I think it is partly de-hydration .... she's not drinking enough.
I've been to school to get her uniform and to check out her new class for Year 3.
This will be her classroom for 2012 ... TA4 ....it's near the office and the library.

#500 Sunday 29 January
Kaylia's 'early' birthday has been very good .... began last night with a visit from Aunty Maxine and Uncle Colin. Present set #1 This morning it was presents in bed .... then at 8:30 it was off to the lake for swim and sausages ... and more swim. At 11am we headed home ... with a stop at Subway for her favourite .... rest time till 2pm. Then we all headed over to Uncle Dean's place for a Ward family gathering .... more presents!
On the way home we stopped off in Kings Park at the plaground. This is Kaylia showing how she can twist the swing .... she gets it spinning through two rotations!

She really digs this present thing! .... and she loves the singing of the birthday song and blowing out the candles. She has had a very happy day.
