#439 Saturday 26 November

The experiment seems to be working! Kaylia has been on the split dose of Risperdal for a week now .... her appetite is down and stimming has not increased. She seems a bit more 'spacey ' but otherwise she is better. Anxiety seems to be down too .... perhaps the two medications were actually increasing the anxiety .... Now that they are being taken 12 hours apart, they're working more effectively.

This evening she has been asking for singing session with the guitar! She hasn't done that for about a year or more.  She has been searching through her drawers of old therapy materials and found the little prompt cards with the names of the songs ... so she got out the guitar and collected us to have a session.  It was good.

#438 Friday 24 November

Last night Kat told me that it was Thanksgiving Day in the US .... this is a custom that would be good to "transplant" ... but I guess there's little commercial benefit so it won't happen .
This year we'll be in Bali from 13 Dec to 10 Jan ..... so we'll miss the whole Christmas thing .... it would seem very strange to try to duplicate it outside that period. We will need to put our thinking caps on!

Christmas in the villa will be with our adopted family .... Kat and Sanggar .... and maybe some of Sanggar's family .... her mother and sister may join us. We will have a chef in to cater for us 'in villa'. It will be the first significant event we have had in our Bali home.

#437 Thursday 24 November

Kaylia now has a Companion Card! You may recall the battles we have had with venue staff who will not accept the Centrelink disability card as proof of entitlement to carer entry .... we now have the source of disputation.

..... and glue is disappearing ... I had a small supply of glue-sticks and they're all gone .... Naomi tells me that Kaylia is eating them! Literally!

The first day back in the office has been a "hair tearing" session. The task of getting the financial record right has been difficult. It has to be right ... After hours of checking and cross checking I've found all the mistakes and we'll be right for doing the pays tomorrow.

The medication experiment? It's going well .... Her appetite has dropped without an increase in stimming! Yay!

#436 Wednesday 23 November

I'm waiting in the Prada lounge .. Great spot .... quiet, comfy, good food. The trip has been worthwhile but not what I'd planned. It was a battle to get the phone and Internet working again ... good to do it on my own. It was also hard to sort out the generator issue ... it would have been impossible with K in tow!

The villa is quite homey now .... the floor mats will probably be the last thing required.

Air Asia behaved perfectly ... the Asian habit of using your first name (eg Mr XX) worked in my favour ... it was quite acceptable that my ticket was for Mr Ian C .... !!!! Stinky Perth staff !

Later: the flight home was delayed by passengers who didn't turn up .... So their luggage had to be unloaded!

At Perth I had no luggage and nothing to declare so I was through customs like greased lightning!
At home Kaylia was beside herself with excitement to see her daddy home! It was a real treat to behold. It was an hour before she calmed enough for sleep. She is very happy to have her routine back in order.

#435 Tuesday 22 November

5:30 .... Early morning is a good time .... Watching the light slowly increase .... it's cloudy and there was lightning earlier so it will probably rain today.

Yesterday I met with Yudhi yesterday and we compared notes about his school project and I told him of Ajeng's project .... since the two projects are similar, there is a possibility of future cooperation ...

The internet and phone in the villa are working again!  Yay!  It has been very difficult without net access.

After visiting many generator dealers this morning, I came to the conclusion that Kohler are the only ones that do automatic startup generators.  Since their price is for a 'turn-key' job where they completely install and maintain, I decided to bite the bullet.  There are much cheaper generators ... but they all require you to walk to the generator and start it up.  Kohler is the only completely automatic unit .... 10 seconds after a power failure, it starts itself and then when the power comes back on, it will stop the engine.  It is in an enclosed silent housing with no exhaust!  Amazing stuff.

Kohler will come and service it once per month for Rp50k .... real value.

Since we are renting the villa, the generator has to be completely automatic. Very few guest would want to be starting a generator!!

I've paid a Rp20mill deposit and we will pay Rp10mil per month till delivery in April.  We could have had one in 2 weeks but we would have had to pay upfront .... which would mean no money for the pondok.
The plan is that rental money coming in will provide the monthly instalment.

I have ordered an airconditioner for the storeroom to cure the mould problem.  We're finding that the humidity goes very high and the contents get mouldy.  If the A/c runs at a relatively high temperature, it will keep the air in the room dry but will cost little to run.

I have bought a stereo for the living room. ....

The water pump is giving trouble again.  Ce la vie.

Now (at 3:30 ... I'm waiting for furniture from Top 9 to be delivered.  Wiwin is planning to visit after work for some English lessons.

Thunder outside .... rain coming.

#434 Monday 21 November

8:30am ... At Gardenia. No wi-fi at home ... no credit on my phone .... so no communication! Not good.
I slept 12 hours last night ... I still feel stuffed today ... No energy.

I've secured paintings and set up the clocks.

The Telkom techs are supposed to come this morning.

Evening at Gardenia. (for the wi-fi!) Just had a long talk with Naomi. We're trying splitting the Risperdal dose for Kaylia as it may reduce her raging appetite ... So far it looks promising. Kaylia sounded very happy on the phone.

The generator needed for the villa is VERY expensive ... Around $8,000 ... This is due to the automatic startup needed for a rental ...so far no good. I'll try some other suppliers tomorrow.

The business license is started.
The phone/Internet is still not fixed .. the fault is in the villa so we now have to find a tech to fix it.

6:00pm. Art Cafe Warung
Blog press is crashing and won't let me write or save .... so I'll do this in notes and put it on the blog later.

After an early sortie to Hardys for a soldering iron and various bits .... it was off to find Kohler Generators ... found the place but it wasn't open ... go back tomorrow. Then it was off to Remo to see if I could get a fast "hotspot".
On the way I found a small hardware shop and after much discussion, they worked out that I was looking for solder to use with the soldering iron! Success!

Off to Remo. We spent a long time in the shop there discussing hotspots and dongles. The conclusion was that it would be a waste .... the best dongle is capable of 14.7Mbps but in Sanur it will still only do 1Mbps!
So it is best to just get the fastest landline ADSL.

This afternoon was big sleep time to catch up from the last night! 3 hours sleep from midday (after rendang at MPs with Made)
Art Cafe is disappointing for the food ... small serves ... better value at MP. Art Cafe is only worthwhile for their wi-fi.

Tomorrow it is Kohlers ... then the lawyer for Pondok Wisata .... Then Lisa for furniture ....
