#485 Saturday 14 January

Naomi is not well.  Neither am I.  We seem to have come home with a flu type bug that saps energy and just makes you feel bad.  We think that Kaylia had it while we were away but of course we're just guessing as we can't ask her how she is feeling!
The limit in that area is that she can tell us if she wants medicine ... or if her head hurts or her tummy hurts.  That's about it.  The rest of our 'diagnosing' is done by observation of behaviour and by an otoscope for ear-ache or the thermometer ....

The otoscope is a wonderful benefit of Ebay!  $5 and we get a tool that can tell us what is happening in her ears!  With her love of swimming, ear-ache is a constant risk.
Bed time
Well .... we got through the day.  Naomi cancelled 2 apointments and coped.  I went over to Osborne Park to try to sell the Jeep (to provide funds for Bali).  No go yet.  Kaylia and Kat had a good day with pool / shops etc.
In the afternoon, we crashed (sleep) and later found that Kaylia had spent the time trying on ALL her clothes ... and then putting them in the washing!  (.... back into the wardrobe they go!)

Hopefully we will feel better tomorrow.

#484 Friday 13 January

Black Friday! ..... but it's not! It's a good day.
Kaylia was funny last night .... When I got home I asked her if she'd had a good day .... she thought for a moment ... "NO!". (She's still mixing up the meaning of yes and no at times.)

She is having a great time at present. Kat is doing her usual excellent .... I was about to say "effort" but it hardly seems right. Kat does such a good job of caring for Kaylia that it appears effortless! It really takes a load off our mind to know that Kaylia is in such good hands .... and Kaylia loves it!
Today they went to the beach .... exploring the coves along the northern beaches. They even saw a sting-ray.

#483 Thursday 12 January

Teddy is a traitor! He's home again after staying next door while we were away .... and at 5am he's sitting at the window looking over there and whining.... he wants to be there and not here!

Kaylia's first day back home has been familiar .... several times she has asked to go to her favorite Bali venues. How do I explain to her why she can't go there? Although she understands going on the plane, she clearly doesn't understand the distance involved.

High finance yesterday and today as we finalize arrangements for the last villa purchase installment. I'll be happy when the dust settles.

#482 Wednesday 11 January

Well .... we sa bak in a Pert The trip back was a breeze this time .... Kaylia was a gem and she slept the whole flight. Touch wood ... we seem to be getting an idea about how to manage her in the travel. The plane was not full and we had the four of us in a row of 6 seats ... so Kaylia was able to stretch out across 2 seats.

Now we're here I don't know what my real life is any more! It will sort out soon but it's an odd feeling .... stuck between two worlds. This morning Kaylia is having big trouble with the transition in routine. At times like this we just have to cycle her through all her familiar habits .... and "ride it out". It's not fun. This morning Kat is taking the brunt of it while I sort out business stuff.

#481 Tuesday 10 January

Last day.  We'll spend the morning putting away all our personal belongings and preparing the villa for rental.  Then we'll head to the airport early afternoon ready for our 5pm flight.

The rain is still falling.  I don't like it.  This house is not designed for wet weather!

We've got a lot done this trip.  There's still things to be done .... the most pressing is for the roof leaks to be sealed and the water damage repaired.  The garage leak is still preventing the lights and power to be used in the garage.   The major items accomplished have been to sort out the water supply and the phone/internet.  Both these area 'rental ready' now.

#480 Monday 9 January

G-o-o-o-d   m-o-r-n-i-n-g!!!!
This is partly to convince poor Naomi .... she's got the bug too!  She has been suffering last night.  We can only hope that this episode will build in some future resistance.

At 8am Kaylia has started a chorus of "Hungry Jacks"  .... we're never 100% sure what she means by this .... much of the time it is the playground she wants - not the food.  Given her level of appetite (or lack of it) these days, I think it may be that she has remembered the playground and wants to go there.  She has also begun the day with a DVD ... she has a complete videography of J-Lo and she really likes it.  Her musical taste is developing these days .... much more age appropriate music much of the time.

Weather this morning is still leaden skies with showers.  A bit like Kat's experience with the tailor!  She has an important function to attend in April and bought beautiful material so that she could have a tailor make up a special dress.  Last night she went for a fitting and the dress has been fatally botched ... material cut incorrectly, seams wrong, material inside out ..... this is the first time I have heard of a local tailor making a mess like this.  The material provided to him is useless now.  Today Made and I will confront the tailor to try and get her deposit refunded.

Pause .... guitar time.
Kaylia loves music more and more ..... we can tell her mood from the songs she sings.  When we hear her singing "The Muffin Man" we know that she's in her groove and all is well.  In her usual fashion she has coined some new words lately ..... "Open Teddy"  .... we think it means "No! I'm not happy!"

Kat and I have been down to confront the tailor .... she had an appointment for a fitting and his shop is closed!  The signs are not good.

Midday
Naomi is suffering and is on 'time-out'  .... Kat and Kaylia have gone shopping.  The rain is still falling.
This morning we watched some video of Kaylia at the Nirwanaa Resort at Tanah Lot in December 2005 .... (see post #466 26 December) ... on that visit Kaylia was entranced by the gamelan players in the foyer.  ..... and she had very little hair!  It took ages for her hair to grow.
Kaylia was nearly two at this time.  We were staying at Yeh Gangga a few kms along the coast.  There were some huge gekkos in the room .....

This one would have been 30cms long.  I hope our gekko residents in the villa here grow to be as big!

Evening
We left Naomi to sleep off the wog and we headed for Hypermart.  Kat found the neatest little 'bento-box' ... a multi-compartment lunch container .... stainless steel.  Then we went to explore.  Down to Ungusan and 'Dreamland'.  I was impressed by the amount of work thats been done since we were last there in 2007.  But today it was pouring!  We couldn't see much.  Made says it rained like this 3 years ago.  Seeing that Bali is still here, I guess there's not too much to worry about.
Back in Sanur, Kat was able to get her deposit back from the tailor ... I was the silent support.

#479 Sunday 8 January

As I was saying before being interupted ..... for IT inclined persons, there's a problem with Dropbox if you have an extended period without internet access.  I don't understand why but after I reconnected to the net, a key file (that I had done a lot of work on while not connected) was overwritten by an older version!  So I lost all the work ... some of which can't be reproduced.  Bummer!

Today ..... we leave the day after tomorrow.  Bummer!  Time to start preparations.

It was a good night for Kaylia last night  .... most are these days.  I had a bad night .... tummy ... I was awake from 1am to 5am with gas .... sitting up burping.

What's this?????   These are the contact details for the artist who did the family drawing in yesterday's blog.  He (she?) clearly did it from a photo so if you have similar needs, you could contact them to arrange something.   I'm impressed!

At 8:30am Kaylia is already in the pool .... despite the fact that it's pouring with rain!

This is K in the pool yesterday .... she decided to unload all the balls into the pool again.  Note the lack of bathers!  (Currently she has another auty routine of  "bathers on ... swim .... bathers off .... go inside and get different bathers ... swim .... bathers off .... swim .... go inside and put more bathers on ... swim .... bathers off ....."  This is continued till she has all her bathers in a row beside the pool! Clearly this routine is only allowable in the villa!)

Evening:
It has been a wet, wet day.  A tree was blown down in nearby Jn Danau Poso.  We went out for a drive and the roads were awash.  The jalan at the villa end has been flooded.  I've managed to improve it by opening up the drain.  Kaylia has still spent just as much time in the pool!
