#614 Saturday 16 June

Kaylia has slept well despite her cough etc..... Our new sleeping arrangements seem to be an improvement. She starts the night upstairs ... then at midnight (when we do a loo run) I take her downstairs and she sleeps in her own bed. She usually takes herself back upstairs at about 4am .... she loves to cuddle while she sleeps .... and this means that whoever she decides to flop all over doesn't get a good sleep!

This morning she was still wanting her routine .... but she had no energy for it! She crashed in bed half-way through therapy. After a sleep she has perked up.

#613 Friday 15 June

The plan is to keep Kaylia home from school today .... I managed to procure the medicine yesterday but it takes about 4-5 days before it will fix the cough. In the meantime we'll keep dosing her with throat soothers and painkillers.
Facebook is a frustrating thing which I tend to stay away from .... but it has it's moments! I made contact with Maxine Jones today .... I haven't been in touch with Max and Joe for ages.
We are being assessed by a new agency which offers respite for carers.... it looks as though they can offer Kaylia a school holiday activity program .... this would reduce the disruption to routine for her. The program sounds similar to school and it may be good for her. Time will tell.
We hope we've found au pair #12 .... Kat leaves on August 3 and we need her replacement before then ... not that Kat could possibly be replaced :-)
.
This is a list of the wonderful people who have helped us cope over the past few years ....
Catherine 1. Mar 2007 to May 07
Anne-Marie 2. July 07 to December
Yo-yo. 3. Jan 08 to June
Tina. 4. July 08 to December
Katie. 5. Jan 09 to June
Danny. 6 July 09 to
Linda. 7
Sophie. 8
Zoe. 9
Sally. 10
Kat. 11
AJ. 12
(I haven't finished the chronology yet)
Evening:
I had an important lesson in 'Kaylia management' today ... we were at the office .... Kaylia was playing in Naomi's office. After a while she came out .... sans clothes! I had to explain to her that at the office she had to keep her clothes on .... I must have said something about it being naughty to take her clothes off .... she immediately took it to mean that she was naughty. I had to spend time reassuring her that she was a good girl ... that taking her clothes off in the office was a naughty thing to do but she was still a good girl. She clearly wanted to be reassured .... she's very literal. We need to be so careful about words that are said without thought in the heat of the moment.

#612 Thursday 14 June

Home again .... just as well.

The villa is on the land at the lower left corner.

Land forms in the Pilbara.
.
Kaylia is a bit sick. It sounds like the mild asthma she gets .... it shows as a cough with no other symptoms. It isn't a cold and it doesn't respond to Ventolin .... It needs Singulair .... a preventative asthma medicine. The problem is to get a prescription. I'll take her to the doctors this morning and just wait till someone will see her.
The prescription system of drug control is fine if you can actually get to see a doctor to get a prescription ..... but it is very hard to get to see a doctor .... they're too busy .... and so you cannot get the medicine when it's needed.

#611 Wednesday 13 June

Last day.  Today I go to the airport ready for the flight to be delayed because of the storms.
Last night I went on patrol with the duty officer of the tourist police.  The impression gained is that being in the tourist police is a form of retirement or standby .....   The tourist police are badly resourced ... the police car is old and in very poor condition ..... it took a long time to start the engine!  They certainly couldn't respond swiftly to any call!    It also appears that they are only allowed a very small amount of fuel for the car!  They can only do  small patrols and not often.
The evening meal was at D'anti as usual .... my preference now .... beautiful food .... small serves but good ... the serves are about the same size as our frozen meals at home .... so I have continued my diet!

This is Nasi Campur a la D'anti
I have also had the really hard job of sampling some massage and spa venues so we have a list ready for guests.

This is the Tirta Ayu Spa in Danau Poso .... a short distance away .... walk there, taxi back.  It's a very pretty, pleasant spot able to cater for 4 or 5 couples at once .... excellent standard of bathrooms etc.

At home:
After a leisurely pack up time I headed for the airport at 10am ..... very early for the flight but I had new business cards to collect for the villa. Traffic is very slow in Bali at present due to the building activity for the new freeway/bypass. This is an amazing project which will take traffic away from the shopping areas. A new airport terminal is also being built .... the projects are due to be completed for a heads of government meeting next year.
Once at the airport (early) I realized that the strange feeling I had was hunger ... I'd missed breakfast! So ... chilli chicken went down well. Still early so I had a chance to browse the shops ... I bought a cool business card holder to hold our supply of villa cards in the office.

#610 Tuesday 12 June

Cool and overcast this morning .... pleasant.
Tonight I have a date with the Tourist Police! They are going to take me on patrol with them at 8pm. This is one of the guys!

This is the new D'anti Warung where Mama Putu's used to be.

.... and this is my arty farty photo .... a Monet version

This afternoon, one of the Mercure guys will begin repainting the garage.
.
Curses .... I've just remembered that I had planned to go to Ubud for Babi Guling today ... Ah - next time!

#609 Monday 11 June

I read in the news this morning of wide spread storms round Perth that have caused blackouts ....
.
My two traveller guests have departed at 1am this morning. We'll keep in touch and I'm sure I'll see them again. They're dedicated travellers .... Justin has been to 42 countries! I think I'll rest a while today ... I'm not used to staying up late (without a good afternoon or evening sleep) and two late nights are taking their toll!
.
BTW, the WIFI problem has gone ... Without me doing anything! So I have no idea what was causing the problem.
.
Evening:
I tried a 'spa' this afternoon .... over 2 hours of sensory delight.  I fell sound asleep in the middle of the massage part.  We'll be there again in future.  We're setting up systems that will make services available to villa guests.
We've alo been arranging for a villa uniform .... shirts, caps, jackets.  When they're ready I'll put a photo here.

#608 Sunday 10 June

Back in Bali! C'est Bon! The breeze is cool, the pool is cool .... if only the Wifi would work! The renovations to the woodwork have been done well and a 6 monthly routine will probably be in order. The new enclosure for the generator is good.

It's an enclosure (lockable) surrounding the generator to prevent unwanted fingers from playing with the control settings.  There's not much chance of the generator being stolen but the enclosure will deter anyone trying.  The enclosure has slatted walls so airflow is good and the meter can still be read easily,

Today I've had two visitors for the day.  Justin and his sister Rochelle are at the end of their Bali holiday and fly back to Perth at 3am tomorrow.  I hope I be able to catch up with them again in the future.   We ate at the Cat and Fiddle tonight ....
