Gaaahhhh!!!

It's 4:00am ..... I've been up since 3 ..... Naomi was up since 2am. It was the hephalump that was galumfing downstairs ..... (I hate those hephalumps!) At least now she is accepting that she has to stay in bed with the iPad ..... much better than running round (with loud, pounding feet) .... finding the never-ending supply of DVDs!

She then finally slept from 5am to 11am! Once again her anxiety level has been much better today ...

I went to the office and assembled furniture today. The office is nearing being fully functional.

I'm worn out this evening .... I should sleep like a log! I just hope that Kaylia does too!

wet

Kaylia has responded well to the change in medications .... she is much more calm and generally happier. Our current thoughts are that her earlier increase in anxiety was caused either by routine changes at home & school ... or it was a side effect of the Ritalin when that was started. Either way, we reacted the wrong way by increasing the Lovan. The Lovan then reached a point where it produced a side effect which was the opposite of the desired effect!

The office preparation continues ..... furniture setup is at a level where we can commence operations. IT setup (phone / copier / ADSL) will be completed in a few days. A huge amount has been accomplished in a short time.

wet

2am and she woke up with a wet bed. Will she sleep again? No .. half an hour later it's iPads above & below as she uses her iPad to try to sleep .... and I use mine to fill in while I wait for her to come galloping up the stairs again!

Evening: It's been an amazing day! Kaylia slept from 11:30 on .... till about 4:30. It could have been a reaction to the Ritalin stopping ..... or maybe the high dose of Lovan has been stressful and now that the dose has been reduced, her body has relaxed. Who knows!

Anyway ... she's a much happier girl this evening. She'll probably be up late tonight.

The saga of the discrimination episode continues .... I'd like to tell you all about it but the story would probably bring a charge of libel! Some people!

PS: Despite the afternoon's sleep she took herself off to bed at the normal 7:00 time but just played quietly till about 10:30

#138 Wednesday 5 January 2010

It's 4:30am and she's been awake since 2:30!

She slept from 6am to 8am .... and the day was still surprisingly OK.

Life seems very busy at present. There's still lots of preparation for the new office.
My new camera came today .... for the camera freaks, I've bought a Fuji HS10 (and found out that a new model was released the day that mine arrived!). The new camera is just in time for my trip to Bali next month!

Kaylia was subjected to some discrimination today .... I have lodged a complaint and I'll wait and see how the complaint is handled before I start jumping up & down.

29 to go
We're both strung out about the new business venture ... and hence sleeping badly. It's just nerves as I'm sure all will go well ... but ..... it would be really excellent if Kaylee weren't in a state too! No doubt she is feeding off our anxiety at present .... we just have to keep on going. (We're Tonka tough!)

Later: We've found out that a possible side effect of one of Kaylee's medications is the heightened anxiety! Since she was put on that one in the hope that it's other side effect of reducing appetite would occur .... and it hasn't ..... we can take her off that particular stuff. If it is causing the anxiety, we'll see a result by the weekend.

30 to go ...

Morning routine is for all of us to lie in bed .... each with their own iThing ... iPad or iPod or iPhone ... the happy sounds of the favourite games. Mummy plays "Frogs" ... Kaylia plays "Dress Up" .... and Daddy writes the blog! At some point there's always a battle for control of the 'black iPad' .... the two iPads are almost identically set up .... but she wants it! NO ... use your own iPad ... Daddy's writing the blog!

Our intrepid travellers survived their encounters with ravenous penguins ... and braved the waves to complete the walk across the sandbar. This is always partly submerged so it's a wet walk.

On the Kaylee front, we have a deepening mystery .... you know how she l.u.u.u.v.v.v.e.es swimming .... well at present she is refusing to get out of the car when we get to the pool! Same again today.

#135 Sunday 2 January 2010

Lots of days still to go

Good morning all!
This blogging thing is an interesting phenomenon (I struggled for the right word there ... I was about to reduce it to lesser words but they don't convey the sense of blogging being an unusual .... new .... not experienced before sort of thing.) As I read the blog from others ... and emails from people who don't use a blog .... it gives a sense of community. In todays world we have lost much of the community aspect of life .... the car means that we usually don't interact with our neighbors .... but we don't have an alternative way to 'connect' with people .... so we function as individuals rather than as a community. The blog (as a medium) becomes a way that we share our life with others .... we gain support from others that read our own blog ... and we give support to the people whose blogs we read.

K Status: High today. The forecast is for good energy and lots of running around! This morning Naomi was doing her little thing of singing a song about coming events .... and Kaylia joined in too. She sings really well with a good voice already. She's going to be such a good singer as she grows up.

Last night Zoe was in the depths of despair with a massive virus problem on her laptop ... as nearly always happens, her backups were not up to date and it looked as though she would lose some stuff. All was not lost though!! Tina came to the rescue and after much work, the damage has been repaired and Zoe's laptop is functional once more!

{At this point turn on your imagination ..... that archetype seductress Marlene Deitrich ... the modern IT savvy version ... has strolled over and she casts a sultry look over her shoulder as she announces [German accent] "Don't vurry darlinks ... it vas yoost a leetle male-vaere progrum!"}

I'm surrounded by champions!

Zoe & Tina are going down to Penguin Island today .... don't worry ... they're NOT going to walk after the turn of the tide!! (This island has been the scene of several fatalities after silly people have attempted to walk the sandbar back to the mainland after the tide has turned).

Later: Kaylia's anxiety has been very high today. For her it takes the form of loudly wanting something .... then not wanting it when she gets it .... then wanting people .... Today she wanted to go for a swim ... then when we arrive at the swimming pool, she refuses to get out of the car and wants to go home! She's done that twice today. She then started going through all her people (Yes Zoe ..... she was asking for you!) After many rounds of this with me constantly telling her "No, mummy is not here" etc, she finally gave up and her anxiety has dropped greatly. There's a lesson here .... don't give in. Giving in does not reduce the anxiety. Just answer the request with a yes or no .... but don't give in.

Later again: This afternoon Kaylia had some "Kym time" ..... she seemed very relieved to see Kym and we wonder if part of Kaylia's anxiety is because she has had two weeks without seeing Kym at all. Many of her verbal "request" could be interpreted as wanting to go to Kym's .... perhaps that has been part of the problem?
