#381 Saturday 24 September

Paints!! Again!! (more fool us for not locking the paints away .... or rather for not checking that any paint remained after the first episode.)

The wrist surgeon visit? All good. I don't need to go back any more. There's still one bit in the wrist which hasn't fused but he's not concerned .... it will fuse given time.

Kaylee has had a good day ... she has a bit on constipation again which is making her grumpy ... back on the goo!

I'm worn out tonight .... I did a plumbing job this afternoon .... replacing a basin tap set ..... all the contorting movements have worn me out .... GOIAB

#380 Friday 23 September

Kaylee had a "slow day" yesterday! This is when she is obviously enjoying life and she dawdles through every moment .... this can be frustrating .... but if you have time to join her in her "slowness" it can be a delight.

Last Friday was Sports Day at school ....

I visit the wrist surgeon this morning .... X-rays to check on progress.

One of the hard things (about having a Kaylee type person) is the need to be constantly alert .... you get out of the car in the parking area at the shops .... you can't assume that she will stay out of the way of passing traffic, or that she won't suddenly just run ....
We try to have a routine where she holds a hand at all times .... this gets hard when you're juggling shopping!

#379 Thursday 22 September

Yesterday was a special day. We said farewell to Lorna .... she will be missed but not sadly. She is so full of love and joy that we can only be happy too. So .... It was a day of mixed tears and happiness.

It was good to share time with friends and family.

I am sad that distance and circumstance prevent us from sharing Kaylia with Lorna's family .... she would fit in so well and be so accepted.

#378 Tuesday 20 September

The pooping birds! What happened?... Well I thought it strange that they should mess in one of the two basins and not the other ..... So .... what is different?
The basin they mess has a mirror immediately behind the tap .... the other basin doesn't .... BINGO! .... the birds sit on the tap and look at themselves in the mirror .... and poop!
Solution? Turn the mirror about face so there is no reflection .... No birds!!

Afternoon:

The furniture order .... the reason for my trip .... arrived yesterday evening.  I was impressed by the thoroughness of the crew ... we'll use them again!  We now have a near completely furnished villa ... just the TVs and DVDs plus one more bed.  (... and we must get some comfortable office-type chairs for computer time! .... since we have desks to sit at)

The bathrooms have their proper mirrors installed (sorry birdies) and its all looking good.  Today David & Tony have been down to Hardys for orientation .... and now they've gone off for 'tour' with Made.

I've been swimming and packing .... it will be time to go soon.

#377 Monday 19 September

After a very good night's sleep, I have been trying to call various people .... about the villa management and the furniture delivery ..... to no avail.  As is common, people just aren't at work!

Between calls I have put up hooks to construct a drying area in the laundry ..... tried to find how to adjust the sliding doors ... without success ..... been down to Hardy's (with a taxi driver who tried to rip me off by charging two fares instead of one!)

In the middle of all this I have found out that Lorna (Kaylia's very special honorary grandmother) died last week and the funeral is on Wednesday .... so I have been changing tickets so I can fly to Perth on Tuesday night.

Life goes on.  Twice in this year travel plans have been upset by bereavements ...

Bed time .... David & Toni arrived at 1:30 today.  I think they are enjoying themselves!!
We all (with Greg and Maxine from next door) went down to Mama Putu for tea .... lovely food but the place was busy and service was ...... ????

#376 Sunday 18 September 2011

Hi y'all from Bali. All is well here with no problems found on arrival at the villa  (apart from the fact that the little birds think the open-air bathrooms are a great place to go for water ... and they poop everywhere. (I need to ask the cleaner why she isn't cleaning up the mess.)

It's 9am and I've up since 4:30am ..... already I've done all the set up things around the villa ... .put up the gazebo curtains, put up the umbrella .... I've been to Lottemart and bought 3 lots of  2 metre high by 1200 wide steel shelving unit for the store room. I expected them to be DIY assemble ... but no - they come already assembled! So we couldn't fit them in the car (as I expected to be able to do) and they will be delivered later today. I stocked up on the coffee and tea supply to take back to Perth .... the usuals plus a couple of new ones to try ...... a sachet tea with milk and sugar .... should be interesting!

I recharged the phone credit .... so SMS and maps are now operational again. Now it's time to relax for a little while before I go for a ride on the bike. I may go and visit John and Pat again.

I'm having a battle with the wireless network here .... I've forgotten the password I set up. Fortunately the villa laptop still has the password set so I was able to recover the password on that .... but only in HEX format ... which means that the password is 64 digits long! I have to find out how to convert from HEX to ASCII so I can see what I originally set the password as. The HEX password works in the meantime.

More later ......

The shelves are here already! ... and the guys even carried them inside for me!  (The photo below shows the storeroom ... the shelves are to hold the plastic boxes .... that are used to store linen, supplies, toys, ..... all the stuff we can't leave out when guests are in residence.)

We'll have to remember the Lottemart delivery service ... only Rp50k.

11:15  Wayan (cleaner) is here.  It seems that she has been cleaning ... the little birds are just very busy poop-ers!  I guess when people are around more, the birds will stay away.

5pm ..... After the last entry, I hopped on the bike and rode up to Hardy's.  There I asked   about the cost of new glasses .... multifocals are Rp1.8mil .... so if the optician in Perth won't cooperate and leave my prescription unchanged, then I can always get them made in Bali!.
After Hardy's I rode up to John King's .... he had visitors so I didn't stay.  Rode back to the villa .... swim .... sleep .... swim ..... sleep.

Update on the birds ... you wouldn't believe the mess they've made in the 2 hours since the bathroom was cleaned!  The S&*%$# little B*&%$#s  I wonder if having a radio playing there would deter them?

Now it's nearly time for makan malam!

Later:  Makan malam was nasi goreng with beef and satay. at Mama Putu's.  It's not a good spot for Kaylia but it suits me.  Now I'm waiting for Skype time with Naomi.
