Kaylia's awareness of her world is increasing all the time .... we often get caught out by the way she listens to conversations and picks up bits of information that interests her. Today Naomi was writing a shopping list ..... and suddenly we're aware that Kaylia is reading the list ..... and working out that ice cream is coming onto her menu! We are holding the staff Christmas party at our place tomorrow evening ..... lots of people and lots of kids! I think it's probably the first serious social event we've hosted since starting down the autism road. That's progress!!

It's good to be home again. Kaylia was very pleased to see me again ..... she still doesn't have many skills at communicating this but there are small signals that show me that her world is back in order.

#1293 Thursday 10 December
It's a quiet day today ..... the power was off for a while but that's no problem.
Skype has been naughty for the past day ..... we can't get 2-way audio to work. Naomi tells me that Kaylia is missing the talks with me on skype. She is really improving in this area .... in the past she wasn't really interested in video images and she wouldn't engage ..... now she stays for quite a while and she will answer my questions and talk to me. Once again I wish we could see what is going on inside her head.
Evening: I'm at 'Warung Blanjong' for tea ..... it's been heavily renovated ..... I suspect that businesses renovate or close ..... things are very quiet indeed and a business has to work hard to attract the few tourists that are here.

All quiet on the northern front ..... there are no significant maintenance issues this time ..... the roof sealing project is nearing completion ..... painting is under control ..... plumbing is all functional ..... IT is really good.
Evening: I was strolling down the street ..... and it was raining yellow flowers from the trees above! It was very pretty .... like yellow snow.
I'm having a very restful time. I'm doing a lot of walking ..... yesterday I walked all the way to Hardys and most of the way back. The legs were feeling it before that walk but they're much better now.
Naomi is ordering Kaylia's school uniform for next year ..... the book purchase is next ...... then school fees. It's all getting toward $1,000 ..... it's hard for us so I wonder how other people cope!

Yesterday it poured! About 3pm there was a proper monsoonal deluge .... followed by a few hours of respite from the humidity. Cool ..... Today it's hot again.
Indonesia is punishing Australia with VOA price again .... US$35 costs AU$55!! It's now better to buy US$ before leaving home.
I had a haircut today ..... and had my beard plaited!

Well .... I actually arrived .... no volcanic delays! Now I just have to get home again.
During the flight up, my glasses fell to pieces .... so I carefully stowed the
bits and this morning found the opticians in Hardys who reassembled
them.
The taxi ride from the airport was .... different? The driver seemed to think his car was an automatic ..... and he drove most of the time in second gear ... engine roaring at 80kmph! Sometimes he'd look down at the "ornament" on the floor .... and move it .. the noise level would drop down. At the next set of lights he'd find his true comfort zone in second gear ..... and we'd be off again!
It's now 2pm and I've had a relaxing morning with a looonnng massage ..... where my painful legs and knees had a thorough workout. The legs feel much better so I might have to repeat the 'indulgence' again during the week.
Since my last visit to the villa, our internet service has been upgraded to cable ..... it is now about the same speed as I get at home in Perth ...... about 20 times faster than before. I'm impressed ... especially since the cost is not a great deal more. It will make life much better when Kaylia can access all the YouTube videos she is used to. With the old connection, she could never understand why it wouldn't work!
