#1800 Friday 27 April

4 days to go!  It's still "School on Tuesday?" but it's only 4 days and she is saying "I feel excited."

She had therapy today .... the team is working on a new program for her.  So many of the possibilities are limited by her lack of imagination.  This is not the normal saying "You've got no imagination!" .... Kaylia literally cannot imagine something that is not in front of her ...... a child can normally imagine that a doll has a personality....  and can imagine the doll doing certain actions ... eg walking, sitting.
.... but for Kaylia the doll is always just a lump of colored plastic.  It is never a character.    For years we have pondered the problem of trying to create imagination in her mind.  This is because much of our learning process depends on being able to imagine.

Today the team discussed a new idea ..... the idea seemed good till we realised that the end result of the process in this idea .... would be that Kaylia learned the next thing by rote!  It would not be imagination in play ... just rote learning.  Back to the drawing board.  This problem has been an issue for 10 years now .... and we still haven't found the key.

Now that the 'bungalow' moving project has been completed, it is appropriate to attach a plaque acknowledging the contributions from helpers over the past months......

It says

Room Move.
Over October 2017 to February 2018 this room was moved 3.5 metres toward the house.  The assistance of the following people was invaluable.
Site preparation and foundation construction
Nita and Sverrin    Andrew and Catriona
Actually moving the room in February 2018

  1. So glad the house move has been completed successfully! We would love to see a picture of it now in it's new place?
Also if any of the therapy ideas for developing Kaylia's imagination are effective, please share on the blog. It's certainly an interesting yet obviously complex thing to teach.
I'm sure Kaylia's very excited at the prospect of school on Tuesday!
    Cheers, Catriona and Andrew :-)

  2. Hi Andrew. We didn't move it any further than shown in the photos at #1772 on 23 February. At that point I built another supporting beam along the north edge of the room.

The next stage is building the new driveway with retaining walls.
