#1113 Tuesday 10 March

BThis trip is mainly to check the results of the latest attempt to cure the leaking roof!  The quality of concrete used in the house construction was such that the roof leaks whenever it rains. We have tried various cheaper methods .... and they all failed.  So now we have tried an expensive method ..... an additional layer of concrete that has sealant included in the mixture and is contoured to ensure that the rain is directed to the drains.

This is the left side of BR3 showing the raised sides.  It slopes to the rear LH corner where the drain is located.

This is the rear of BR3 .... the centre of this area is raised so water flows to the drains in the two rear corners.

Yesterday was an .... interesting .... day.  At midday the power cut out while I was out for lunch.  It seems that one of the main power stations in Bali broke down a month ago and it hasn't been fixed yet.  The generating capacity for Bali isn't sufficient for demand without it ...... so each day a region goes without power for most of the day!  ..... and yesterday was Sanur's turn.  The power stayed off all afternoon so there was no air conditioning and no internet.  At 8pm I gave in and started the generator to cool off ..... and the power came back on at 8:30pm.  Phew.

I had tea last night at a warung nearby .... and it has a pool table!  It will be good to see what Kaylia thinks of that!  We have a video clip of her in December 2005 in which she is very excited by the balls returning to the collection point on the table ..... and when small, she was allowed .... by the friend .... to sit on their pool table  to scoot the balls around.  She loved that!

Today I have a new problem ..... yesterday when the power was off, the garden hose was left open .... because there was no pressure to make it obvious.  So when the power came back on, the hose emptied the storage tank and the bore pump ran all night trying to fill the tank!  It seems to have emptied the bore supply and the water is very discolored.   Hopefully a few days of normal use will clear the water.

Four hours later and the water is clear again ..... the color was from sediment in the water and it has already settled to the bottom of the tank!  The tank will probably need to be replaced soon ..... the next door villa had the same "stainless steel" tank and it was riddled with holes form corrosion!  So ours will go the same way soon.  It will be replaced with a plastic tank and I will see about including a filter on the inlet water supply.

Evening

I've gone for a walk and found the "Man Shed"
..... it's an ol codgers retreat just the other side of the bypass ..... a museum of stuff that would interest a bloke.
There's a real Haflinger in the lineup..... it's the first time I've actually seen one.  Awesome.  (In the days of my serious 4WD'ing, the Haflinger was the "holy grail" .... a tiny thing with full diff locks and the works.)
There's a mezzanine floor full of old motorbikes.... no Harleys though.  There are several Holdens on the floor .... for some reason Holdens have cult status in Bali.

As I write this the clientele consists of 5 other blokes all around my vintage.  All bule.

The food looks good so I'll stay for tea.
